Milk Lab

Milk
Introduction:  Milk is used to made lots of dairy products and is even used to make some plastics.  What happens to milk when it isn’t refrigerated and stored in a warm, dark place? When milk is left in a warm, dark place for 72 hours it will begin to spoil and start to evaporate.
Hypothesis: If the milk is left in a warm, dark place then the milk spoil and start to evaporate.
Procedure:  Pour ½ cup of milk in a shallow cup or jar.  Then place the cup in a warm, dark cupboard for 72 hours.  Last take the cup out of the cupboard and review the results.
Results:
Fresh Milk about to go in the cupboard

Milk in the Cupboard for 72 Hours

Milk after 72 Hours in a dark, warm place

Cup tilted to show semi-solidified milk

Conclusion: After taking the milk out of the cupboard 72 hours later I observed a slight souring odor.  It appeared the milk had separated leaving a clear, water like liquid on top.  The next layer was very thick, white and jelly like.  After further investigation by tipping the cup sideways I found that the thick layer went all the way to the bottom.
